Ron & Sheila stayed in Xion, China which was near the Terra Cotta Warriors site. Emporer Qin Shi Huang was the first emporor of the Qin Dynasty. He became emporor at the age of 13 when his father died. At the age of 22, he assumed control of state affairs. He was responsible for unifiing the six independent china states and for constructing the Great Wall of China.

He commissioned the construction of his tomb at a very early age. The tomb was constructed over 39 years. He died in 210 B.C. at the age of 50. The Terra Cotta warriors were built to scale out of interchangeable parts, with the head matching each solder exactly. There are more than 6,000 warriors, burried to protect the Emporor in his afterlife. In 1974, three farmers digging a well discovered this tomb. Escavation continues to this day in all four pits. The Government only allows their official picture taking, to preserve the site.

The picture below was taken at the Terra Cotta Warrior escavation site 1 (Pit #1). Behind Ron & Sheila are the warriors, which are life size. To get an idea of the scale, look at the people at the back and to the far right above the pit. In addition, there is another pit the same size behind the people on the back walkway. It's huge!
