This page contains five pictures from the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is about a 1 hour drive outside Beijing, China. This is one of two main areas where tourists can walk along the great wall. The Great Wall is around 3,000 miles long and starts by the sea and ends in the Gobi Desert. It can be seen from outer space. It was built around 2,000 years ago to protect China from outside invaders, such as the Huns (Hungarians now). The section we walked, as you can see, hugs the local terrain. At various points it is very steep, since it is going up and over mountains. In the background, you can see it snake along the mountains to the left.

Approximately every 200 yards the wall has a 2 story tower for the guards to lookout. The picture before this contains a guard tower. This picture is a view from one of these towers out to the wall which twists and turns over the mountain terrain.

This picture gives you a sense of how steep the wall can get at some points.
